Post-treatment care

Massage contra-actions

These are temporary, mild side effects that may occur after a massage. Massage helps move fluids through the body, improving the efficiency of various systems. This can lead to toxins being released into the bloodstream, which might cause different reactions. This process gives the body a chance to clear out built-up toxins and emotions. These mild side effects are usually short-lived, typically lasting no more than 24 to 48 hours. Common after-effects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Muscle soreness

  • Bruising

  • Inflammation

  • Cramping

  • Redness of the skin (Erythema)

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Headaches

  • Increased thirst and urination/defecation

  • Heightened emotional state

  • Cold-like symptoms

  • Breakouts (spots) – drinking plenty of water or herbal teas can help flush out toxins faster.

Dry needling contra-actions

These are mild, temporary side effects that may occur after dry needling. Most resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Common after-effects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Mild bleeding or bruising at the needle site

  • Temporary soreness or aching in the treated area

  • Fatigue or general tiredness

  • Light-headedness or dizziness

  • Small, localised swelling

  • Mild muscle twitching or spasms

  • Temporary aggravation of symptoms before improvement

  • Skin sensitivity or mild irritation at the needling site
